To start, let me just say that I do believe yoga can help decrease anxiety. After all, any time you combine deep breathing, stretching, and meditation good things are bound to happen. But can it also help you find your soul mate? That’s what author and unconventional Yogi Vish Iyer claims in his book Yoga and Love. In a recent interview with Valerie Murphy, Vish shared that there are specific yoga techniques that can be used to attract the right person into your life. Given that I’m married though, I took particular interest in Vish’s views about abnormal anxiety and how people can use yoga and meditation as a means of reducing it. Actually, he took it a step further and discussed some of the more spiritual aspects of anxiety reduction.
Now, I’ll be honest, I’m not that well-informed about spiritual matters. So listening to Vish caused me to think hard about my own views related to abnormal anxiety, which is a good thing. Challenging our beliefs is healthy and often leads to additional insights or perhaps a brand new perspective. So whether you’re looking for love, or curious about a different way of managing your anxiety, I think you’ll enjoy this week’s podcast.
In this week’s episode of The Anxiety Guru Show we’ll explore:
- The physical and psychological benefits of Yoga
- Specific Yoga and meditation techniques
- How Yoga can help attract your ideal mate
- The spiritual aspects of abnormal anxiety

I can tell you yoga 100% decreases my anxiety! I can tell a huge difference in my day to day activities on the days I don’t do it. It took a good 3-4 months before I got any mental benefits from it, so to those that are just beginning, stick with it. It’s SO worth it. I haven’t been doing yoga for very long, but it’s tough, and I’m cursing in my head the entire time, lol…but the feeling I get when I leave, is priceless. <3 yoga!

Hey aa, I used to feel dizzy and off balance often, however, over time this symptom has all but vanished. I get like that occasionally, but it is rare and when it does occur it is minor and short-lived. Years ago I’d also experience muscle twitching, but that has gone away completely. When I stopped to think about it actually, I had tons of symptoms in the past. The good news is that I don’t anymore. Although it’s difficult try to focus your attention on anxiety reduction in general rather than getting over-focused on a single symptom. If you do that then the symptoms you hate so much will eventually stop. Hope that helps!

Hi Paul
Great diet. Just a question. Once you have reached complete acceptance of your anxiety, how long can you expect to wait until your symptoms start to die down.
I seem to be able to accept completely for a week or two, but the symptoms never seem to abate and eventually I lose heart and start to entertain thoughts that this is something else.
Some advice would be nice. Might even be a topic worth discussing.

Really interesting. For me Yoga is one of those things that I find helps mentally and physically…I know it, I feel it but I still struggle to regularly practice it. I don’t get that? Why do so many of us find something that helps, but still find it a chore to do? Really liking your podcasts. Anxiety spikes with some things that come up (not in this one), but still enjoying them…Thank-You.
