On December 30, 2009 I was on the brink of closing down the Anxiety Guru podcast. I ended up extending the deadline because I felt so bad about having to shut things down . But instead of just throwing in the towel, I gave my readers and listeners a chance to help and they came through in a big way.
I have to say that when I opened up my laptop today I was floored. In 17 days I raised $227.50 making the fundraiser a total success. Today in particular I received a huge donation and I have to admit that it made me rub my eyes to make sure I wasn’t seeing things.
Because of the generosity of my readers and listeners the podcast will be alive and well in 2010. You know, nothing speaks louder than actions do, and these donations have proven to me that what I do matters. It’s like validation after 19 months of work.
It also has nothing to do with money. It’s about people showing you that you are a valued resource. The act of donating says a lot about what someone thinks of a cause, and as a result this response has made me pretty emotional on a few occasions.
Because as I work and plug away I seldom know if what I do actually helps people. I had a suspicion that it did, but I was never really sure, but now I know that it does.
I also know that you can’t see me. I understand that you don’t know who I am. But despite this, I want you to know that I’m with you. I’m with you because I know how hard it is to be anxious and afraid all the time. I know what it’s like to feel despair and loneliness, but that’s why I’m here doing what I do.
I do it because I want everyone to know that no matter your difficulty with anxiety there is always a better day ahead. And I’ll keep trying to speed the arrival of that day for you.
Thank you.

Yay Paul, that’s fantastic! I’m happy that turned out so well 🙂 We are all in this together so we have to support each other in whatever way we can and I’m sure people realize that and wanted to give back.

Thanks everyone, I’m just as glad as you are, believe me.
I wasn’t so sure that I would be able to keep the podcast, but now that I can I’m excited about producing new material.
Thank you all. It’s… well words can’t explain how happy I am. Very cool.
And yes, we are in this together. None of you are alone.
Thank you.
