Wow, I’m literally in tears. I have so many of these symptoms and I have been obsessing that there is something wrong with my health. I’ve had blood work, catscan, etc. Nothing. It must be anxiety – but WHAT A HORRIBLE CONDITION. Seriously. The symptoms are real and so scary. Thanks for this site!

First, I really enjoy this site–I have been dealing with anxiety for more than 3 years now and am constantly worried about the symptoms I feel. Of course the first time around, I ended up in the ER and after EKG, bloodwork, etc. was told it is anxiety.
I took Lexapro for the past two years and was feeling good enough that in consultation with my therapist, stopped in January. Well, my anxiety has returned with a vengeance with a very stressful time at work having just ended–funny it hits me after the project is over 🙂 Anyway, I really bottomed out and have been feeling that tense feeling in my chest, difficulty breathing and feeling my nasal passages are closed up even though I am not sick, sweaty, cold hands and feet and the list goes on. I felt really good for a long stretch and now just seem like I have fallen back into a bad cycle and have to remind myself these are just anxiety symptoms and nothing else.
You guys are both right 100%. It is a horrible condition and it seems to strike at the oddest times.
It is an unrelenting struggle to live with anxiety. Its almost like having a bunch of different conditions at the same time with a dose of nervousness sprinkled on top for good measure.
And Chuck, you hit the nail right on the head. It is just anxiety and we do have to constantly keep reminding ourselves of this or things get out of control.

This is a really helpful list-I find myself coming back to it often when I feel my anxiety ramp up and I start feeling sensations that cause me to think I have MS or ALS or something awful…The “What ifs” just cause my anxiety to really go off the charts. Referring to this list helps me get back to being rational!

I took prozac for the first time last Saturday, and since then my legs have been twitching all over the place. I was worried it was the beginning of one of the super-rare side effects of the drug (dystonia), but my doctor told me it was just a result of anxiety. Still, it’s reassuring to see it on the list, since it’s not a symptom I’d typically associate with just anxiety.

I can’t get this to work. Is there another list of the symptoms and sensations?
Hi Jesse, I fixed the link. Thanks for letting me know.

I get a really dry mouth and throat and I have to keep drinking water and sucking on candies. Crazy! I don’t like to drink to much water, since it causes another kind of anxiety – where is the washroom??!! It is strange how we get so many different kinds of symptoms from the same basic cause.

Hello I’ve been having problems with chest pains. I get sharp pains where my heart is at, I also feel like my heart is heavy as well as a dull feeling and also it feels like my heart gets a electrical shock. As well as chest discomfort. It feels horrible. Most of the time I try to ignore it but even when I’m not anxious I feel the pains which causes me to be anxious or even causes a panic attack. I have had EKG, stress test and 2d echo and all have been normal. But then I look on the Internet and people say the tests are not always accurate and that if you feel the pain something must be wrong and don’t take it lightly I really would like to believe that im fine but when the pain kicks in I feel like something is wrong with my heart and it doesn’t help that I have high blood pressure which I’m on medicine for. Any suggestions?!

Sal… I understand where you are coming from, I’m sure that we all do (we’re on an anxiety site after all), but I have to say that the biggest no no for someone who suffers from anxiety is to constantly google search your symptoms and worries, because this will only increase your fear. It is very easy for someone to read that their drug has this kind of side effect, or that medical condition xyz comes with certain side effects, and then for us to convince ourselves that we are actually having these symptoms, or that we have a certain medical condition. We use information we find on the net (posted by some anonymous source who claims to know everything) to attempt to diagnose our problems, when only a medically trained doctor can do that. The best advice I can give to you is to stop with the constant internet searches of your symptoms/ailments and to trust in your doctor’s advice and test readings. This will go a long way towards finally stopping yourself from tricking your body into feeling sick/upset/scared and being able to live a less worrisome/stressed out lifestyle. Trust the doctor, not the blog post.

I’ve been struggling with Anxiety for almost a year. I read this list, and almost threw up at how many of those symptoms happen to me on a daily basis. I am so worried all the time. I just want to be me again.

My anxiety starts with my stomach, gas, diaherra, arms getting numb, then I start walking to make sure I do not fall over dead in my chair. I am 60 years old and take metformin (even though I do not have diabetes)and I take Ativan for 7 years now. I have been reading about this drug and I google everything…been to the ER and my doctor had all heart tests and everything is fine….take my BP all day long…my stomach is the real culprit..starting chiropractic to see if that helps…anyone else in my situation?

Hi Rudy, I’m always thinking about new podcast ideas and suggestibility is a good one! Don’t have a lot of time right now, but this is a very good topic and I think I just might do one on this. Thanks!

Ive been having bad anxiety and panic attacks. I’m 22 years old, and while my peers are living their normal lives, I’m stuck with panicking and constantly worrying about my health. Ive never had any serious health problems, and always been physically active. I’ve always been care free until almost a year ago. All of the symptoms that have been listed before me have happened to me too. I have terrible headaches, tightness in my chest, tingling all over my body, fatigue, and even depression. It makes one feel so alone and isolated. But reading and understanding the symptoms that are present allow restless minds to grasp a realistic belief and to calmly discover relief, and maybe learn one day to cope with life and live happily as one should. Thanks so much for this.
